- 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
For the Topping:
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs

For the Pasta:
- 1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- 2. Add elbow macaroni and cook until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
For the Cheese Sauce:
- 1. In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt butter.
- 2. Whisk in flour and cook for about one minute until bubbly.
- 3. Gradually pour in milk while whisking to avoid lumps. Stir until thickened (about five minutes).
- 4. Add half of the cheddar and all of the mozzarella, stirring until melted and creamy.
- Combine and Bake:
- 1. Mix cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce, ensuring every piece is coated.
- 2. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour mac and cheese into a greased baking dish.
- 3. Top with remaining cheddar cheese and panko breadcrumbs.
- 4. Bake uncovered for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
- 5. Let cool slightly before serving.
