Ingredients
Scale
For the Hamburger Steaks:
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
For the Brown Gravy:
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
Instructions
For the Hamburger Steaks:
- 1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, half of the chopped onion, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently until combined.
- 2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty about 1 inch thick. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty.
- 3. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat with a drizzle of oil or butter. Sear patties for about 5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through.
For the Brown Gravy:
- 1. Remove the cooked patties from the skillet and set aside.
- 2. In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour until smooth to create a roux.
- 3. Gradually add beef broth while whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Cook until thickened.
- To Combine:
- 1. Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet with the gravy, allowing them to simmer together for about 5 minutes for flavors to meld.
- 2. Serve hot, spooning additional gravy over each patty.
