For the Dough:
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cardamom
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 2 large eggs (room temperature)
For the Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tbsp milk or water
Instructions
For the Dough:
- 1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle in yeast and let sit for about five minutes until frothy.
- 2. Add melted butter, eggs, salt, and ground cardamom to the yeast mixture. Stir in half of the flour until combined.
- 3. Gradually add the remaining flour until a soft dough forms that pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
- 4. Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for about ten minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm place for about one hour or until doubled in size.
For Shaping:
- 6. Roll out risen dough into a rectangle about half an inch thick. Spread melted butter over it, sprinkle with sugar mixed with additional ground cardamom, then roll tightly from one long side.
- 7. Cut into individual pieces (about two inches long) and place cut-side-up on baking sheets lined with parchment paper. Let rise again while preheating oven to 375°F (190°C).
For Baking:
- 8. Bake for about twenty minutes until golden brown.
- 9. For the glaze, mix powdered sugar with milk or water until desired consistency is achieved and drizzle over warm buns.
